Monta chooses automation for sustainable packaging 2400 1350 Sparck Technologies

Two of Monta’s distribution centers in The Netherlands have been expanded with a CVP Impack Automated Packaging Solution by Sparck Technologies. The installation of the systems will make packing and shipping of the increasing number of online orders more sustainable and efficient.

Monta Fulfilment, founded in 1999, is an e-commerce company that offers a broad range of e-fulfilment. Since Edwin van der Ham began the business, Monta has become a company with 15 independent e-commerce warehouses from which it handles the processing and worldwide delivery of parcels for over 1,700 different web shops.

Monta values the importance to its ESG policy, which is why they have a strong focus on making logistics processes more sustainable. Technology and innovation play a major role in this philosophy. Edwin van der Ham, owner and CEO of Monta, explains: “Serving so many different web shops with a broad variety of products requires flexibility, without losing your ability to manage a sustainable process. On top of the the sustainable measures within our own warehouses, we offer our customers the option of shipping via green carriers. We also provide our customers’ webshop systems with an Eco-button. This allows customers to select this option during the ordering process by choosing a slightly delayed delivery. This way, the parcels does not have to be sent immediately, but is saved for shipment a few days later. We also extend this strong focus on sustainability to the packaging of orders. An investment in sustainable fit-to-size automated packaging systems fits well with our ESG policy.”

The automated packaging solutions from Sparck Technologies have proven to be the right solution for Monta. The CVP Impack using 3D scanning technology to measure the dimensions of each order and then cuts a customized box from fanfold corrugate. The right-size cut box is then automatically folded around the order, sealed, and labeled to make it ready for shipment.

As more orders are packed fit-to-the-size of the product, it results in reduction in shipping volume. Together, both machines process about 5,000 orders per day. Edwin van der Ham continues: “Our job is to enable web shops to grow. The amazing thing about the packaging solutions from Sparck Technologies is that they not only offer a sustainable packaging process, but also speed up the order processing. They allow us to pack at lightning speed, many times faster than manual packaging. Large or small products, multi- or single-items, the machines can handle it all.” Monta reduces the amount of excess air in parcels by around 40% by using Sparck Technologies’ automated packaging machines, which has both a cost saving and a CO2 reduction benefit.
