How CEVA Logistics benefits from automated packaging
There is more to packaging than a sturdy wrapping around a product. Good packaging enhances the customer experience and has a minimal impact on the environment. In Sparck’s CVP-500, CEVA Logistics has found the packaging machine that makes it all possible.
As a 3PL, CEVA Logistics supports multiple companies all around the globe and has over 40,000 employees worldwide. CEVA was looking for a packaging machine that could package thousands of orders a day, quickly, automatically and in made-to-measure packaging. Therefore, flexibility was the most important requirement and as CEVA discovered the most challenging. As in the end, Hammen only found one packaging machine that covers it all: Sparck’s CVP-500. Hammen: “The machine takes a 3D scan of the order to be processed and instantly then cuts and creases the card to size, the card is fed to meet the order and it as wrapped around the product as a second skin.”
Not only is Sparck Technologies the only company to meet CEVA’s needs, Sparck was able to confirm their capabilities with the ability to complete robust simulations and analyses. Prior to a final handshake, Hammen visited Drachten (the Netherlands) – where the CVP-500 is developed and built – with thousands of packages to personally complete a test. “It was here that we saw with our own eyes how the production capacity was realised”, says Hammen. “The fact that we were able to conduct an open test, is worth its weight in gold in a relationship.”

Ambition
Since the machine was installed in Venray, Sparck Technologies has been working in conjunction with CEVA to optimize productivity which has enabled CEVA to send ever smaller packages. “Sparck Technologies t is continuously looking to improve the CVP-500.” says Hammen. “In partnership with Sparck , we are constantly reviewing the CVP-500 and its capabilities which has led to a great success. Sparck Technologies is always prepared to review and improve itself on the basis of someone else’s insights. That makes them very strong in my eyes.”
