Sparck Technologies announced that Backcountry.com, the leading online retailer of outdoor gear and apparel for skiing, snowboarding, biking, climbing, fly fishing, hiking, camping and more, has purchased three CVP-500 automated packing solutions for the company’s Christiansburg, Virginia; Stuttgart, Germany; and Salt Lake City, Utah distribution centers. The CVP-500 will increase Backcountry.com’s throughput and automate packing operations to support the company’s rapid growth.

The CVP-500 builds, fills, folds and labels every order in one seamless process. The system creates a custom-fit parcel every seven seconds, while using less corrugated and eliminating void fill. The fit-to-size packing automation reduces dimensional weights and frees-up working space, providing a cost-effective packing solution.

“We are thrilled to have the CVP-500 in our distribution centers. It can be installed in just a few days, enabling us to be up-and-running prior to the end of the year,” said Jeff Carter, Senior Vice President of Global Fulfillment at Backcountry.com. “The CVP-500 will bring us closer to achieving a fully automated distribution center and create an efficient, cost-effective flow in order fulfillment.”

“We were also impressed with the system’s environmentally-friendly benefits in using 20% less corrugated and eliminating void fill. Our customers are outdoor enthusiasts and we support their goals for a clean environment, so it is important for us to minimize our global footprint,” continued Carter. “With the CVP-500 we can work smarter, while reducing packing, shipping and seasonal labor costs.”

CVP-500 Automated Packing Solutions help reaching goals

“We are excited to begin our partnership with Backcountry.com,” said Marc Aandeweg, Manager Sales& Operations at Sparck Technologies. “The CVP-500 will help the company reach its goals for faster, more reliable fulfillment and increased efficiency.”

Aandeweg said the Backcountry.com CVP-500 purchase is the third since the system was launched in the U.S. in February 2016, and the 12th worldwide. “As more and more shippers hear about the speed and cost savings of the system they want to see how it can work for them.”
